ORIGINAL...OPPORTUNISTIC... OPTIMAL, OUTSTANDING
Dr. Nieta J. Scott-Dunmore
Warmest of Greetings, from the “Oldest Graduate Chapter” in the MARVELOUS Mid-Atlantic Region and the “Fourth Oldest Graduate Chapter” Internationally of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®, DELTA OMEGA CHAPTER.
Chartered in Petersburg, Virginia, on February 6, 1921, we are celebrating 97 years of “service to all mankind”. We continue to cultivate and maximize our leadership stature demonstrated by the esteemed sorority members who chartered this chapter through inclusive programs and events. As did the FIRSTpresident of this chapter, Pauline Sims Puryear, who became the fourth international president of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®, we embrace our community, as we have an enviable part in sending forth an improved citizenry, the prevailing principle of which is Womanhood and Sisterhood.
I am so honored and humbled to be the 48thand current president of Delta Omega Chapter, with the most remarkable and richest history within this prestigious sorority and community of Petersburg, Virginia. Petersburg, Virginia was once the second-largest city in Virginia and home to the largest number of free blacks in Virginia and is home to two of the oldest black Baptist churches in the nation. It is also most appropriate to note that Delta Omega Chapter, joins the esteemed history of being the FIRST Greek-letter organization in the National Pan Hellenic Council to be chartered in Petersburg, Virginia on the campus of our beloved Virginia State University. We enjoy our love, encouragement, partnership and joint service ventures with the FIRSTUndergraduate chapter, Alpha Epsilon, chartered on May 15, 1926, originally chartered in the South Atlantic Region, now residing in the MARVELOUS Mid-Atlantic Region, since 1953.
We welcome you to browse our official chapter website to gain a deeper appreciation and love for all the community service, family assistance, dedication to educational enrichment, health awareness initiatives and global impact programs, to enhance lifestyles of children and adults abroad, as well as in our wonderful city of Petersburg, Virginia...a city of resilient citizens and the immediate surrounding communities. We graciously expand our partnerships, service programs and scholarship opportunities to the cities of Hopewell, Colonial Heights, Dinwiddie and Sussex counties, to include Fort Lee, Virginia.
Every member of our chapter envisions and resonates the willingness and passion to continue our successful progress in the “Exemplifying Excellence Through Sustainable Service”℠program targets which elevates our illustrious sorority. In addition, we partner consistently with The Ivy Community Foundation® in efforts to raise funds for current scholarships and enhanced service programs.
We W.H.I.P.(Work Hard in Petersburg)!! “Watch us Work” as we continue to reach Higher Ground!
Yours in Community Service and Partnership,
Dr. Nieta J. Scott-Dunmore
